Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to support the organization in effectively managing the risks of occupational incidents, environmental impacts and non-compliance for the Research and Approvals Divisions located in Norwood, MA.
The position is responsible for implementing and supporting corporate and local EHS department strategies, policies, programs, procedures, education, and training.
Program areas include, but are not limited to air, land, water, waste, occupational health, and safety.
The EHS Specialist works with the Research and Approvals EHS Manager and local safety committees to meet objectives and maintain compliance.
The EHS Specialist provides tactical and technical support, subject matter expertise, and implementation support to ensure ongoing program sustainability.
The position has the responsibility to identify and recommend action to reduce the risk of EHS exposures.
The position also has the responsibility to support the local management in the implementation of policies and programs to mitigate such exposure in accordance with local laws and corporate strategy.
The EHS Specialist will serve as a technical leader as hazardous materials manager, radiation safety, laser safety, and safety officer on response teams.
The EHS Specialist is required to be familiar with (and stay current on changes to) EHS regulations applicable to Research & Approvals operations and ensure FM Global EH&S programs are compliant with local legal obligations, licenses, and permits.
The position will work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and authorities having jurisdiction in a combined effort with the Research & Approvals EHS Manager.
The EHS Specialist based at the Norwood location will also provide secondary EHS support to the FM Global Learning Center and Four Points Hotel and Conference Center, as needed.
The EHS Specialist functions as tactical and technical support, subject matter expert, and implementation support to ensure ongoing program sustainability.
The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the Research and Approvals Divisions to help provide a safe work environment for all employees, visitors and contractors and will help ensure compliance with applicable EHS permits, laws and regulations.
Schedule & Location:
This exempt, full-time position is office-based in Norwood, MA.
Responsibilities:
EHS Programs:
Support the maintenance of all EHS Programs and Procedures.
Provide guidance to Research and Approvals test designs by ensuring that facility operations and test configurations comply with EHS regulations and FMG best practices.
Participate on hazard assessment teams to evaluate new processes, equipment, and laboratory space.
Identify potential hazards and provide input on how to eliminate or minimize the hazards.
Serve as a hazardous waste manager by overseeing the onsite programs including waste identification, characterizing, coordinating sampling, analysis, onsite storage monitoring and disposal.
Serve as the technical point of contact with government agencies.
Develop and support programs that are compliant with federal, state and local EHS management requirements such as hazard communication, laboratory safety standard, confined space entry, employee right-to-know, safety data sheet use, industrial fire brigade operations, hazardous materials management, emergency preparedness and response, fork lift operation, asbestos abatement, electrical safety, hazardous energy control practices, fire/life safety standards, medical surveillance, and respiratory protection programs.
Ensure personnel safety by implementing indoor air quality monitoring, engineering controls, administrative procedures, and personal protective equipment.
Maintain an incident reporting, tracking and corrective actions plans with the support of area managers to ensure a safe work environment for all employees, visitors, and contractors.
Training:
Ensure EHS training programs are maintained, appropriate personnel are trained, and training is documented.
Conducts or coordinates training programs.
In collaboration with managers, ensures that all personnel who are anticipated to perform tasks where pre-job safety training is required are adequately trained.
Compliance Monitoring:
Supports all environmental and material monitoring and reporting.
Periodic monitoring includes but not limited to the sampling and monitoring of process waters, hazardous waste and non-hazardous wastes and recycling programs.
Laboratory test program specific monitoring and indoor air quality monitoring as needed.
Oversee reporting to all relevant regulatory agenciesSupports in the compliance of all EHS licenses and permit requirements including, but are not limited to, maintaining accurate and up to date:
MWRA sewer permits, air permits, wetlands permits, hazardous waste management, NPDES and storm water permits.
Conducts annual review of written programs to ensure compliance with regulatory compliance requirements.
EHS Committees & Teams:
The EHS Specialist may have responsibility to lead one or more EHS related teams and/or committees.
Crisis Management & Physical Security:
Provide support for physical security, business continuity, crisis management and other risk related initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, occupational health science, chemical engineering or engineering curriculum with equivalent training is required.
Highly Preferred Education:
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is highly preferred.
Certification Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is highly preferred.

Industrial, manufacturing, and/or research/laboratory setting.
Professional work experience implementing and maintaining EHS programs is highly preferred.
Required Skills:
Broad technical knowledge of US, and MA environmental and occupational health and safety regulations and program development and implementation.
Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.
Ability to influence without authority across diverse stakeholder groups and leadership levels.
Experience delivering EHS training programs.
Takes a hands-on approach to regulatory compliance.
Strong research and analytical skills for determining appropriate advisories and actions.
Good computer skills, including MS Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint or other presentation software.
Experience with using EHS management software.
The hiring range for this position is $97,500-$140,100.
The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.

Salary:
$22.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
